TECHNICOLOUR SHELTERS FOR BREAKTHROUGH PARK
13 Jun 2018
Landmark Products has contributed a suite of technicolour shelters as part of a $3.6 million redevelopment of what is being called “Australia’s first sensory park” in Gladstone, Queensland.
Landmark Products is proud to have been associated with the large-scale redevelopment project at Gladstone's Lion Park, providing five steel Whyalla series skillion-roof shelters.
Late last year, at the grand opening of the park, Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett echoed the sentiments of the parents and children attending in expressing how the project has exceeded all expectations.
He shared how the unprecedented park was designed to be fun and educational, enabling children and adults to explore all seven senses: hearing, sight, smell, touch, taste, physical balance and proprioception (the sense of position and strength of movement of the limbs).
"All the different playgrounds [within the park] are specifically designed to cater for children and adults coping with sensory processing disorder, auditory processing disorder, autism, down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and visual impairment," he explains.
The overall design of the park was inspired by the works of Leonardo da Vinci. With Gladstone’s strong industrial heritage, the layout of the park resembles machinery cogs, which sought to fulfil the brief of “industry meets nature”.
In building on the sensory theme of the playspace, each of the aluminium Landmark shelters was finished with a different coloured powerdercoated front screen, from dark violet, blaze blue to yellow gold, and orange x15 to flame red.
Required for the region, the structural rating of each of the installed shelters was upgraded to C2 wind code to ensure structural integrity. All shelters were delivered in kit-form, complete with engineer certificates, building application drawings and installation instructions, making installation easy for the project’s third-party install crew.
