THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SHADE

Shadeform’s industry-leading shade structures are a core feature of the City of Tea Tree Gulley's ambitious upgrade of its parks and playspaces that aim to improve facilities for the area's growing population. What are the benefits?
Pantowa Reserve
Young families are increasingly spending more time outdoors, enjoying the parks and playspaces that Australia has to offer, and the City of Tea Tree Gulley is keen to capitalise on this by promoting healthy outdoor living for local residents. To maximise the use of our playspaces, protection against the hot Australian sun is essential, and a well-designed shade structure can greatly add to the user experience by providing a sun-safe environment for young and old alike.
Shadeform has been engaged by Council to supply and install a range of shade structures over a number of playspaces, including the company’s popular Shadeport at Neville and Pantowara Reserves, and a series of custom-designed Hypar Shade Sails at Famechon and Kestral Reserves.
The scope for each reserve was set out by Council’s landscape division to comply with their requirements and the Australian Standards for shade provision. Shadeform was engaged to finalise the design process, obtain engineering and additional necessary approvals, and then undertake the fabrication of steelwork, construction of footings and the manufacture and installation of shade sails or Shadeport.

On completion, each playspace now benefits from an eye-catching shade structure, which adds to the user experience of parks in the Tea Tree Gulley area. Each shade structure provides benefits from both a practical aspect – where the deployment of shade is crucial to the safe use of such spaces – and from a visual perspective, where the design of each shade structure adds to the aesthetic appeal of these vibrant and welcoming community spaces.
Shadeform has over 30 years' experience in designing, manufacturing and installing shade sails and structures, being at the heart of this relatively new industry right from its inception. With a background in sailing and sail making from childhood, the Shadeform directors have a wealth of experience in the manufacture of sails. You cannot buy or import experience – you have to live through it.
Commercial shade sails and Shadeports are engineer-designed to suit each application. Shade design is a very specialist area with a limitless array of structural formats. By using the latest 3D design software, Shadeform’s engineers are able to accurately calculate the tensile loadings and design posts, footings and support structures to comply with the specification of each location.
Shade sails and Shadeports can be manufactured using a wide range of fabrics depending on the individual requirement. Commercial grade shadecloth provides a durable yet economical solution, with up to 98 percent UV protection.

Becoming increasingly popular is the extra heavy duty Monotec 370 shadecloth. This Australian-made monofilament shade fabric is available in a wide range of vibrant colours and has an excellent 15-year warranty.
Shadeform uses only the best fittings available on the market. Grade 316 stainless steel edge wires, D rings and galvanised heavy-duty chains are generally used on large commercial shadecloth sails, with durable galvanised or stainless edge cables used on the Shadeport, depending on the application.
Design is critical to the lifespan of a shade structure and this comes with experience in this specialist area. If designed correctly, a shade structure will provide years of trouble-free shading, with minimal maintenance required.
