THE UNDEFINED PLAYGROUND

Seoul-based company B.U.S Architecture has redefined the urban playground with their design for the ‘undefined playground’ – a folding pavilion that can be moved to create different playing fields.
Playing ball in a city is not an easy task; to use a public sports facility, you need to book two months in advance. But kids know that any place can become a playground as long as there’s a ball. With this is mind, Seoul-based practice B.U.S architecture embarked on the mission of creating a movable sports pavilion called ‘undefined playground’ where users can play four different types of ball games that need no special equipment and which anyone can easily learn to play.
The structure consists of a polyhedron that can be folded and unfolded into different positions, generating the ideal situation for playing soccer, basketball, tennis, and flying disc; to complement it, it also has a sporting goods rental. The ‘undefined playground’ is flexible to the participants’ needs, transforming into whatever they want by just moving it around.
When folded, the ‘movable sports pavilion’ is perfect for playing these four games: mini soccer, as a small goalpost is formed; triangle basketball thanks to the rings that come in different shapes and numbers; flying disc, where the target on the wall shows the countable scores; free tennis due to a wall in the middle where a ball is bounced by two alternating players hitting it. When unfolded it can be used as a semicircle soccer field with a hammock.
