UPGRADED RODDA LANE

TRJ Engineering was contracted by Evergreen Civil to supply a range of shelters, picnic tables and seating and more to the RMIT University in Melbourne.
TRJ Engineering supplied shade structures, laneway seating and picnic tables and seating to a small laneway and courtyard at RMIT University, Melbourne. Having to design as per the architects concept drawings and manufacture the numerous products, the finished result is a range of cobalt blue outdoor furniture and structures that liven the small sheltered courtyard and laneway.
The shade structures had to be manufactured to be able to be transported to site and erected under a concrete stairway and bridge within the confinements of courtyard of multi-story buildings. The main structure measured 6 metres in diameter and the outer shades section were up to 3.7 metres high. It is of steel construction and painted with a multi-layer paint system as the structures were too big to be powdercoated . Delivered on site in sections and craned into position, the outdoor furniture was then bolted together and the multicolored mesh was installed on top.
The laneway seating was manufactured in sections for the complexity of installing them in a tight laneway between two buildings with obstacles above them and on the walls. Each seat section was different in height from 2.2metres high to 5.4metres high. The new paving had already been laid before TRJ Engineering could install them and they could not withstand the weight of a forklift or EWP. All parts were lifted by hand on a scaffold and installed. The mesh sections were then each bolted on to the framework in the color pattern required.
The frames of all the outdoor furniture and seating in this project was constructed from RHS and pipe with perforated mesh in either aluminum and stainless steel with different hole diameters for each section. TRJ Engineering then painted and installed each of the structures and furniture on site.
