WEATHERED STEEL AND CONCRETE OFFICE SPACE
27 Oct 2022
Cox Architecture recently refurbished two towers in Brisbane and merged them into one collaborative office building.
Midtown Workplace is a nine-level establishment that promotes informal office spaces and collaborative work areas. The diverse and blended office model is seen in the building’s architecture through the open space and amphitheatre setting.
The ground level includes a stepped concrete design to resemble an auditorium where co-workers can meet for coffee and informal conversations. This zone is known as ‘The Pit’ and sits below the central skylit atrium of the building. From The Pit looking upwards, workers can see blue skies and sunshine through the cascading plant life from the balconies. Each balcony a work floor, the open atrium is the heart of the building and is where the previous two towers connect via a weathered steel staircase.
Throughout the office building, concrete and weathered steel are the main raw materials used. From the curved concrete amphitheatre to the bronzed weathered steel balconies, the diverse office spaces to the abundance of plant life, Midtown Workplace is an open-air office building where workers can freely move around and work in every space.
