WILD WATERPARK UNVEILED

Plans for the southern hemisphere’s largest indoor waterpark have been unveiled for Dingley Village in Melbourne, which will include a river, wave ski-slide and plenty of places to swim and surf.
Victorian construction and development firm Pellicano and publican family Zagame have unveiled plans for the $100 million water park, to be named Zagame’s Wild Water Park. The year-round, all-weather facility will comprise 18,200sqm of indoor and 20,000sqm of outdoor water attractions.
Among the attractions will be a 180-degree semi-circular stand-up surf pool, a tunnel-like wave ski-slide complete with video controls and an impressive indoor-outdoor ‘lazy river’.
City of Kingston mayor Georgina Oxley said that a permit has not been issued yet and council would take into account that the area for the proposed water park was in a “green wedge” zone typically used for agricultural uses.
“It’s certainly something we’ll have to address during the planning permit stage,” Oxley said.
Pellicano and Zagame’s have previously collaborated on a highly successful joint venture on the Gold Coast, the regeneration of Paradise Resort.
“This partnership was a natural fit for Zagame, as a well-established family-owned business, Pellicano’s values align closely with our own and we both continue to maintain a benchmark of excellence in all our business dealings,” Zagame director Robert Zagame said.
The Victorian partners are also collaborating with Vancouver-based WhiteWater West. “WhiteWater West has been working closely with the Zagame’s and Pellicano team to make their vision for the park a reality with the help of Peddle Thorpe Architects and Master Planners Pico Play,” WhiteWater West managing director James Corbett said. “The park will be home to some of WhiteWater’s latest innovations in technology and design, bringing a truly one-of-a-kind experience to all Australians.”
The project is estimated to create 1200 new full-time jobs within Dingley Village and the wider City of Kingston.
Nine food and beverage outlets have also been proposed in the masterplan, leveraging Zagame’s industry-leading food, beverage and entertainment offerings.
Engineering students from universities will also be able to attend guided tours of the water management technology to oversee the best practice of environmentally sustainable design.
Once approved, a two-year construction process could have the project completed late-2021.
