WORLD-LEADING SOLAR STREET LIGHTING
16 Sep 2021
Orion Solar has secured the distribution rights for one of the world’s leading suppliers in solar lighting – Sunna Design.
Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, Orion Solar has secured the distribution rights from one of the world’s leading suppliers in solar lighting, Sunna Design of Bordeaux, France. In 2020, Sunna Design acquired North America’s leading solar lighting provider SOL Inc., the company that Orion Solar has represented in Australia for several years. Now Orion represent Sol and Sunna in Australia and the Pacific region.
Of all the new products which Sunna provides, Orion is having significant success with the iSSL Range, which is particularly advantageous for global locations such as Australia. The attractive and compact, pole-top enclosure houses the solar panels, the battery, the LED module and the electronics to provide a completely integrated product. The installer can choose to position the product to suit the light distribution required, since the solar panel will function in any orientation. Additional features such as local Wi-Fi hotspot, CCTV capability, environmental sensors and USB charging stations can easily be added.
Among Orion’s existing users of the iSSL Maxi-4 are Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads for their Reststop Upgrade program. This program illuminates various rest stops in the Toowoomba, Dalby, Roma, Longreach and Mareeba regions of Queensland. To date about 90 units of the Maxi and Maxi-4 have been installed. In Western Australia, RAAF Base Pearce has illuminated a car park with Maxi-4 units and Yarra Pilbara have installed 45 Maxi-4 units for perimeter fence lighting.
Often Orion’s iSSL products are installed in remote locations due to the difficulties of providing hard wired power. One example is where the Maxi units are installed at the Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council up in Cape York. This is an interesting installation in the fact that the application of these units is to provide Wi-Fi and CCTV capability. Thomas Smith, the Works Manager said that the units were very easy to work with, especially using the Smartphone App.
