BALAKLAVA PARK, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Known for its horse racing carnival and its interest and support for the arts, the town of Balaklava has installed 30 First Light PLB bollards at the town park. Located on the banks of the Wakefield River, 92km north of Adelaide, Balaklava is administered by the Wakefield Regional Council.
The council was looking for a lighting solution for the park that would put light on the ground for the pathways of the caravan park and a skate park. They were attracted to solar because solar bollards are easy to install, requiring no trenching or cabling. They also required a bollard of robust construction, able to withstand a harsh outback climate while also offering an elegant appearance. The First Light PLB bollard met all of those requirements.
According to David Woodroofe, Community Development Officer at Wakefield Council, “Over the last 12 months council has been extremely happy with how the solar bollards have stood up, in regards to performance of light, and also the issue of vandalism at the skate park’’.
David also said that he was happy that no electricians were required to perform the installation and that the running costs were zero.
The PLB series solar powered LED bollard is an ideal choice for low level architectural and commercial pathway and landscape lighting applications. The optics aim the light down toward the ground, with optional light distribution of Type III or Type V.
The PLB’s sister product is the WLB bollard which shines a horizontal light making it more suitable for way finding or for obstruction lighting.
