EROMANGA PARK'S DINO-MITE PLAYGROUND
Nestled amongst the Eromanga Living History Centre and Eromanga Hall, Quilpie Shire Council envisioned a play space that tied in with the history of the area and to inspire users of all ages. Eromanga Park is a testament to history and imagination—a playground that merges prehistoric marvels with innovative play.
This amazing playground was the culmination of Quilpie Shire Council understanding community desires, having a desire to tie in with local history, inspired designers and skilled tradespeople to construct a play area that makes sense on many levels.
Inspired by the discovery of a Sauropod dinosaur named Sam, and the colossal Australotitan Cooperensis named Cooper, dinosaurs whose remains were found in Queensland, are now displayed in the local Eromanga Natural History Museum.
Engaging in comprehensive discussions and meticulous planning with the Quilpie Shire Council, our team delved into understanding the essence of the area. This collaborative effort ensured that the playground seamlessly blended into the space, catering to the needs and preferences of its diverse users. We then worked together with manufacturer QualiCite, who created a bespoke piece of play equipment in their factory – this amazing unit consists of four slides, a climbing wall, a crawl tunnel, a hangout deck, and a netting area for adventurous climbers. This one-of-a-kind structure stands as the only one of its kind in Australia, mirroring the awe of the region's historic discoveries.
The unique play structure is the centre piece to a whole play space that is now a favourite in the area for community members and visitors. Ensuring we had the ideas of creating a play space that tied in with what the community area is well known for visually, it was important that we understood who would be using the equipment to increase impact for how the equipment could and would be used.
Merging imagination with local context, creating a unique play space that leaves lasting impressions was the goal and we created a space that resonates with the essence of Eromanga Park.
