PLAY CREATES NEW LEASE ON LIFE

Undergoing a $1.2 million upgrade, Moondara Street Park has become a new vibrant outdoor space for the community to enjoy.

Under the direction of Wyndham City Council, this tired community space was given a major overhaul to provide new amenity to the community. The park project is part of the City’s 2022/2023 $19.8 million strategy to address ageing infrastructure and create new and improved parks, open spaces and streetscapes for the residents of Tarneit, to support them to get outside and be active and enjoy nature.

Turning to experts PTA Landscapes to complete the project, Moondara Street Park now offers locals two new playground zones, designed to cater for both junior and senior play needs, a spacious grassed kickabout area, a half-court basketball court, picnic facilities with barbecues, bathroom facilities, upgraded pathways with a new circuit path connection, and improved seating and greenscape.

Bestowing plenty of play challenges for older kids, a large play tower in the playspace immediately catches the eye. Offering not one but three separate slides of varying heights, the tower is a fun climbing adventure that traverses many levels. For the younger set, a separate smaller, yet no less fun, play tower sits off to the side. Contributing thrills from a less lofty height, the smaller tower encourages little kids to climb and slide at a level they can enjoy confidently.

Surrounded by mulch and rubber softfall surfaces, the large playspace is a safe haven for fun and imaginative play. Landscaped garden beds with low edges border the play zone, providing a subtle division from the open grassed area. Rough hewn boulders sit close to the ground around the edge of the gardens. These natural rock formations provide additional seating to supervising guardians if needed, or work as a climbing trail that encourages nature-based play for little explorers.

To the more physically adventurous players, a half-court with basketball hoops calls for active play. Surfaced in a bright blue safety surface, with the key picked out in orange, the organically formed court offers plenty of room for ball games of all kinds.

For those that want to watch the action while resting in the shade, a series of cantilevered shelters with slatted awnings overlook the court. A shelter with a solid roof supervises the playground, offering a spot to picnic when a rest from play is needed. But, if grass is more your thing, visitors can’t go past the large grassed area that provides plenty of space to relax in the sun, kick a ball about, gather with friends or just enjoy a walk with the dog.
