PUTTING THE MORE INTO ALAMORA
Amping up the ante on park design is at the heart of Fleming’s latest residential design and construction project for Alamora estate.
Continuing to design and construct some of Melbourne’s most innovative and interesting community parks, Fleming’s Landscapes is fast becoming the go-to company for developers seeking a park with a point of difference. One of its latest triumphs, Alamora, is a new residential estate development located in Melbourne’s fast growing outer western suburbs. A shining example of the value of an integrated design and construction model, this project showcases how all parties were 100 percent focused on an impressive product from concept to park opening!
Award-winning developer Villawood Properties engaged with Flow Design Studio and Fleming’s Landscapes from the outset to ensure this development set the highest bar possible. The community has benefited from the unique design philosophies of Flow Design Studio in the estate’s overarching landscape masterplan, from the sales office and the streetscapes to the Residents Club landscape. However, the cherry on top is the community’s central park.
Steeped in horticultural expertise, this park was designed by Flow Design Studio, built by Fleming’s Landscapes, and stocked with plants and trees sourced and supplied by Fleming’s Nurseries.
Despite the challenges of designing and coordinating the process through the thick of Covid-19 lockdowns, followed directly by the challenges posed to ordering and sourcing products and materials post lockdown, the Alamora park is a triumph of design, functionality, innovation, fun and frivolity — all the stuff great parks are made of.
The project is an example of how the fluid process of design and construction achieves great outcomes by problem solving quickly and easily as well as being a real-life example of Fleming’s over-arching philosophies of horticulture first, innovation and attention to the detail.
Comprising almost 130 beautiful advanced trees, Alamora will grow to be a shady place with the tree canopy offering everything possible from size, shade, native, flowering, seasonal interest and tough and hardy characteristics. Some of these impressive park trees include oak trees, elm trees, tilia, ash, crepe myrtle and maples. Natives are also present with one of Fleming’s Nurseries new introductions, Eucalyptus robusta ‘Matong’, a highly uniform and impressive species.
The kids playspace is a paradise of play! Jam-packed with innovative, fun and unique play elements, including the Mouse House — effectively a large cylinder that children run in to make the whole piece spin — as well as musical play elements that engage all the senses, a huge-customised play tower featuring tube slides, climbing nets and tunnels, and a supersize gyro swing that is a hit with kids of all ages.
A large kick-about area is perfect for exercise, play and picnicking while the large kidney-shaped shelter houses tables, making it a great central park where residents and visitors can entertain with friends, family or tee-up a play-date.
The park is now open to the public and sure to become known in the region as a park to attract the wider community, flourishing as time goes by and the landscape continues to thrive.
