RIVERBANK PARK ADVENTURE PLAYSPACE
Designed with the help of the Yass Valley community, the adventure playspace received $2 million in grant funding in 2021 under the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program. The new adventure playground replaces the former playground which had been damaged during the floods of 2022, and had come to the end of its safe asset life.
Proludic collaborated with Yass Valley Council to providespecialist expertise in the design and construction of bespoke play equipment solutions, to create the unique, fun and durable Ka’Yop 'Skytower' that features in this playspace, providing thrills to daring adventurers!
Proludic’s Custom-Designed Ka’yop Play Tower
Inspired by the original design concept prepared by landscape architect Group GSA, the Ka’Yop 'Skytower' design was developed further by the Proludic team in collaboration with council.
The design solution for the bespoke play structure includes enhanced play features for children of different ages and abilities, the use of durable and sustainable materials, a colour palette that complements the surrounding environment, and compliance to the latest playground safety standards.
Enhanced Play Features
The play activities found throughout the custom-designed structure engage children in fun, active and imaginative play. Two tall round towers are connected by a dizzying suspended rope tunnel. A ramp provides access to the smaller tower and wonderful views over the surrounding parkland. A thrilling giant tube slide – the longest slide ever installed by Proludic – is attached to the tallest tower! The slide includes windows that allow light to shine through the tube, adding even more fun.
Children can also access the tallest tower via a ladder at ground level, and make their way to the top using the interior steps and climbing ropes. Then, the little adventurers are rewarded with the giant tube slide on one side or the suspended rope tunnel on the other, which both guarantee thrilling sensations. This tower also includes a Speed Slide that provides a completely different way of sliding!
Perforated panels around the towers provide enhanced visual effects for the children playing inside as dappled light shines through, whilst beautiful views of the surrounding parkland can be enjoyed. These perforated panels also allow accompanying adults to keep visual contact with the children.
Accessible pathways to and around the play tower provide easy access to the play equipment so that everyone can join in the fun.
Durable and Sustainable Materials
Providing quality play equipment for this state government funded playspace was of real importance to Yass Valley Council, to ensure this asset withstands the harsh Australian climate and intensive use.
The play tower is made of robust, durable and sustainable materials which ensure longevity of the structure, low maintenance, and compliance with the playground safety standards. It offers playground users thrilling activities provided in a context of safety.
The natural colour palette selected for the tower integrates beautifully into the Riverbank Park setting.
More Play Equipment, More Fun
In addition to the custom “Skytower” the Proludic Cableway (J514) and Rollrunner (J3510) provide children from 4 years old exciting dynamic play activities where they can share fun with friends.
Other play equipment, natural play elements and playful gardens complement the adventure playground and encourage exploration. Picnic areas and plenty of seating enable families to relax, connect and spend an enjoyable day out.
The Riverbank Park Adventure Playspace project is a great example of how Proludic can work alongside clients from the early stages of a project to design and build bespoke playspaces that meet the project’s vision and budget. The creativity of our designers and our quality manufacturing ensure original, durable and sustainable solutions, and play equipment that communities love.
