CHRISTIE ADDS A HUMAN SCALE TO APARTMENT LIVING
13 May 2015
Big housing developments and apartment complexes don’t have to be impersonal - with a little help from Christie, they can be fun and friendly places too.
SPC Building Constructions recently completed the development of the Genesis Apartment complex in Turrella just south of Sydney. Their goal was to build a complex with a higher level of quality and finish. They also wanted to give more consideration than most developments offer to the quality of life the residents would enjoy.
The complex contains 281 contemporary apartments gathered around an open, spacious courtyard. To avoid the monolithic appearance so common in older developments, there are individual apartment blocks and most apartments have a balcony. This gives the architecture a relaxed, almost informal atmosphere.
To complement the architecture, the developers wanted to give the 800 to 900 residents an equally relaxed and informal place to meet and eat outdoors. They engaged Christie to help create a barbecue area that was stylish enough to work well with the architecture and robust enough to cope with the varying needs of so many residents.
For the barbecue, the obvious choice was the Christie Modular Series. This range is based around a single module that can be expanded to create two or even three module units. In this case, the right configuration for the expected volume of users was a three module structure with two Christie gas cooktops with a sink in between.
Two Parkline table settings and eight park benches were chosen to match the style and quality of the architecture. The end result is an inviting space that is easy to maintain and operate. A human touch that makes great architecture come to life.
