A STANDOUT STONE

An award-winning home on Sydney’s Scotland Island required an award-winning sandstone to complement its natural material palette. One of the world’s most unique sandstones, Australian Mt White 'Brown' from Gosford Quarries, was the perfect fit.
Gosford Quarries’ Australian Mt White ‘Brown’ Sandstone was supplied to RW Stidwell Constructions for use on a home project that took out the 2011 HIA Home of the Year Award. The unique house was designed to meet the requirements of the island location. The choice of natural materials, particularly the recycled timber and sandstone elements, and the attention to detail produced a warm and inviting ambience for the home.
Gosford Quarries’ Australian Mount White ‘Brown’ sandstone is one of the world’s most unique and recognisable sandstones. The colour and rhythmic banding of this sandstone complements the recycled hardwood timber that is used extensively in this house project.
Gosford Quarries supplied a standard panel of 600 x 50 x 300mm in a Gang Sawn finish. Gang Sawn is a unique sawing technique used since the early days of dimensioned sandstone processing. The finish is direct from a reciprocating frame saw that typically creates a texture similar to flamed granite. The size and nature of the texture is directly related to the size of the ‘steel shot’ and the sawing technique. Gang Sawn is a perfect finish for wall cladding and paving.
