AUSTRALIA'S PAVILION AT THE 2025 WORLD EXPO
13 Nov 2024
The design for the Australia Pavilion at the upcoming 2025 World Expo held in Osaka, Japan, explores Australia’s unique energy, our diverse and warm people, our talent and creativity and our stunning natural environment.
The theme, 'Chasing the Sun', celebrates the Australian propensity to dream big and maximise our potential for an inclusive future society. The theme narrative guides the design of Australia’s Pavilion and visitor experience in Osaka, which encapsulates both the power and beauty of the sun on the land and people over tens of thousands of years.
The Pavilion will be a symbol of the warmth, energy and optimism of the Australian people, and takes design cues from Australia’s natural beauty, and act as a conduit for cultivating inspiration, creativity and innovation.
Designed by Australian architecture design firm Buchan, the pavilion is inspired by the flowering blossom of the iconic Australian eucalyptus tree. The eucalyptus tree, with its many shapes and colours, represents the diversity and dynamism of Australian people. The eucalyptus blossom reflects the vibrancy of our modern Australian society.
Inside the Australia Pavilion, visitors will embark on a one-of-a-kind immersive adventure following the sun across Australia. This multisensory experience will allow visitors to hear the sounds of our unique fauna, gaze into the night sky, and celebrate our ocean environment, while also helping visitors to understand First Nations’ connection to Country over tens of thousands of years and how this ancient knowledge can help us build a future society.
Any future society must protect the natural heritage of the past. Australians envisage a future where connection and care are central to a happy and healthy life.
The pavilion will host an array of dynamic Australian cultural events and a strategic business program designed to showcase Australia to the world.
