BIO BASIN REPAIR AND REHABILITATION

At the recent Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards, Evolve Environmental Solutions took home the prize for Environment & Sustainability for their recently completed bioretention basin rectification works at Horizon Drive in Springfield Lakes.

In October 2017, Evolve Environmental Solutions was engaged by Lendlease to undertake the rehabilitation and revegetation of two interconnecting bioretention basins in Springfield, Queensland. The basins were heavily infested with weed species, including Typha, and heavily silted, leading to a non-operational system.

Initial works included the removal of five years of silt that had flowed into the system. With excavation completed, Evolve commenced lining and filling each basin with drainage filter media. Once levels were surveyed and fully approved, planting commenced to ensure a functioning, active stormwater treatment system.

The use of coir matting assisted with the fast plant establishment achieved on this project and promotes a longer than average life expectancy, which contributes to the long term environmental solution delivered.
