BIOPHILIC SKYSCRAPER IN SINGAPORE
06 Oct 2022
Located in Singapore’s financial district, the innovative and sustainably designed CapitaSpring biophilic skyscraper has opened.
First revealed in 2018, the 280-metre-high skyscraper boasts luxurious office spaces and luscious green pockets. Spanning over 93,000 square metres, CapitaSpring by Bjarke Ingels Group and Carlo Ratti Associatti is a labyrinth of greenery and open spaces with the addition of restaurants, serviced residences, sky gardens all inside a commercial office space.
The buildings exterior tears apart along the way up with the façade material warping outwards to create pockets of greenery and provide natural light to the interior open-air garden and then warps back in again to its vertical linear design.
Featuring 80,000 plants throughout the skyscraper, the main attraction is the 35-metre open-air garden. Its innovative design demonstrates a seamless integration of nature into architecture and provides residents and office-goers an open and fresh space to walk around and explore.
The tropical softscaping includes shade-tolerant plants that require less sunlight. This works well in an interior building where sunlight can be unavailable due to cloud cover or the movement of the sun throughout the day.
