DesignBUILD is excited to be the first building and architectural event to be held at Sydney’s new $1.5 billion International Convention Centre, designed by HASSELL and Populous, in 2017. With Michael Lockwood, Global Design Director at Populous’ Convention Centre practice, as keynote speaker, it’s going to be a great event.
Marketing Manager, Stephanie Bleakley, said the ICC location provides the ideal platform to inspire and inform – expounding on how grand building visions become realities.
“Delegates will get a unique perspective of the current state of our industry and receive unprecedented access to this brand new venue, through a series of bespoke breakfasts, lunches and cocktail functions, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes venue tours,” said Bleakley.
For the first time, DesignBUILD will be co-held with the National Conference of long-term partner Australian Institute of Architecture (AIA). The event will also welcome first-time partner Planning Institute of Australia, who will be co-locating their own National Conference at DesignBUILD, creating an architectural and planning hub at the new International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney.
DesignBUILD 2017 will see the Sydney launch of DesignBUILD RAW, an exciting initiative that showcases the very best of emerging talent. RAW is run in partnership with the University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and the University of Technology Sydney.
Students will be invited to design two speaker theatres and the Incubator pavilion at DesignBUILD 2017. Rachel Couper from Sydney University’s Innovation in Applied Design lab notes, “The forum provides a fantastic opportunity to engage with the industry and enhance our student’s understanding of the design process through a realised project.”
In addition to the keynote address by Michael Lockwood, the DesignBUILD Speaker Series will include Paul Foskett and Graeme Spencer, lead architects on the ICC project, plus a range of industry speakers across various disciplines.
DesignBUILD 2017 is already set to be 20% larger than previous years and 40% larger than the award winning 2015 and 2016 events.
