FINE WINE AND SEALING

Mitchelton Winery in Goulburn Valley, Victoria, has been renovated into a stunning hotel and spa that introduces premium accommodation to the area. Drizoro Maxseal Flex was used to provide secure and long-lasting waterproofing for the winery’s concrete surfaces. Find out how.
Setting a new standard for accommodation in Victoria’s picturesque Goulburn Valley, Mitchelton Winery now offers its own 58-room hotel and day space that has the same impeccable quality and attention to detail that is given to its wines.
A range of room options provides spaces that are both intimate and inviting, and offers the perfect place to enjoy a night away from the city, surrounded by nature, beauty and – most importantly – wine. Designed by the internationally renowned architectural and interior design practice of Hecker Guthrie, featuring earthy tones and modern luxury, each room is a personal sanctuary with the full offering of the winery at the door.
Local building company Bowens supplied 9000 metres of oak timber decking to the hotel – paying homage to the importance that oak has in winemaking, as the premium wines are stored in oak barrels.
The large, 40-year-old wine cellar of Mitchelton Winery was due for an upgrade along with the renovations, and it was revealed the foundation of the ceiling had fallen into disrepair. In order to combat this issue, Bowens commissioned Scientific Waterproofing Products (SPR) to come onsite and use Drizoro Maxseal Flex to repair the ceiling. The 700 square metres of the affected area in the ceiling was in desperate need of a reliable sealant to keep the space in check, and Maxseal Flex was just the product to do it.
Drizoro Maxseal Flex is a flexible waterproofing membrane for concrete, masonry, blocks, prefabricated panels and brick against positive and negative water pressure. This product is ideal for below-grade structures, such as wine cellars, basements foundations and more. It offers solid protection for concrete against carbonation, freeze-thaw cycles, de-icing salts in highways and chlorine penetration in public works, irrigation channels, dams, retaining walls and water treatment plants, bridges, etc.
Maxseal Flex sealant is a coating with flexible and waterproofing properties that adheres to practically every surface. Once applied and cured, Maxseal Flex provides a non-toxic, flexible and waterproof coating that adheres to common substrates in construction. It can be rendered 24 hours after a second coat has been applied with a flick or scratch coat, and it can be painted over after 14 days with a normal paint procedure on any cement-based coatings.
Maxseal Flex is a two-component product: the first is a water-based acrylic resin, and the second is a mortar-based mix of cement, additives and well-graded aggregates. Once applied and cured it provides a non-toxic, flexible and waterproof coating.
Maxseal Flex was the perfect solution for the waterlogged and damaged ceiling at Mitchelton Winery and ensures that the wine cellar of this premium facility will remain safe and dry for many years to come.
