GREEN ADELAIDE
16 Aug 2023
Green Adelaide is a government urban environmental organisation that’s creating a cooler, greener and wilder metropolitan South Australia (SA) that celebrates its unique culture.
They are focused on the practical greening of urban SA through restoring natural environments amidst urban sprawl, rewilding places that are surrounded by thousands of residents, connecting people with nature through education and experience, as well as embedding Aboriginal traditional practices – all to deliver environmental outcomes for SA.
This is done by facilitating partnerships, investing in aligned initiatives with grants, educating people about nature with campaigns, events, and programs, and delivering local iconic on-ground projects like rewilding our longest river (the River Torrens/ Karrawirra Pari) with platypus soon.
The 2023 Joint International Congress has partnered with Green Adelaide to deliver the event to showcase Adelaide’s strong connection between nature and people and share its story globally with the urban parks, sports and recreation sectors through this Congress.
Green Adelaide spearheaded the campaign that showcased Adelaide’s credentials and saw its city become Australia’s first National Park City on 10 December 2021. As the world's second National Park City (after London), Adelaide provides the ideal location to experience firsthand the city's reputation as one of the world’s most liveable cities.
Adelaide National Park City is a movement to improve liveability in Greater Adelaide by connecting people with nature through everyday actions.
