LANEWAY COMES TO LIFE
16 Aug 2018
As part of a revitalisation project for Carnegie that seeks to transform the area into a vibrant communal hub, MPS Paving supplied a StreetBond™ leaf design for Leaf Lane that brings life and colour to the previously dull laneway.
Glen Eira City Council has been planning place-making projects that are designed to support traders who will activate shopping centres and achieve community visions. The Leaf Lane at 85-87 Koornang Road project aims to make Carnegie a more vibrant place that fosters a strong sense of community ownership and place attachment.
Bespoke wall lights and stencil ground art are being installed throughout the zone to improve safety and create an inviting atmosphere that will encourage people to spend more time in the area.
The project consists of:
Five fabricated vertical light trays | Made of aluminium and finished in a Corten steel colour with a leaf motif, the lights will glow and wash light onto the northern wall and surface of the laneway, with a range of vibrant colours that can be changed to blend with events or seasons.
StreetBond Stencil artwork | Applied to the surface of the laneway comprising a black base with Jacaranda leaves stencilled in spring and autumn colours of green and yellow stipple. Jacaranda leaves were selected to link in with the trees and artwork at the Carnegie Library forecourt that is situated across the road from this laneway.
The colour combination of Avocado, Mustard, Down to Earth and Pumpkin Spice brings out the texture of the leaves and gives them a realistic look. The StreetBond splatter coat adds a natural effect and the leaves look as though have been scattered along the path.
This laneway in Carnegie leads to a popular supermarket, with many pedestrians consistently walking through. MPS Paving Systems worked with Glen Eira City Council to fulfil the scope of works, often during weekends/night hours when the laneway could be blocked off from the public to enable the crew to complete the project.
This project for Glen Eira City Council is yet another addition to MPS Paving’s diverse portfolio of custom projects from this year, which includes the Sunshine Heights Primary School Project that also used Streetbond in the design.
StreetBond coating is available in multiple colours with custom shades available upon request. StreetBond is extremely durable and often used together with StreetPrint.
MPS Paving’s range of StreetBond™ textured coating and paving paint is a practical solution that will bring softness and colour to otherwise hard-formed surfaces and structures. As an anti-slip paint, it can be safely applied to many surfaces to create colourful and safe designs. When commercial set ups and businesses have high foot traffic it is important to reduce any slip hazards. StreetBond™ will give you peace of mind by increasing the slip resistance of your flooring surfaces.
