The journey of Pandanus™ began when Andrew Galt, a Landscape Architect Manager at Brisbane’s RPS, approached GX Outdoors with a unique vision. Inspired by the fruit of the Pandanus tree, a distinctive feature of the local coastline, Andrew sought to create a shade system that paid homage to the area’s natural landscape. While the initial concept was compelling, it required expert engineering to transform it into a buildable and highly functional shade system.

The GX Outdoors design team, led by Design Manager Michael Hinchy, took on the challenge. The team refined the concept, introducing pitched segments that not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also improved water management and overall functionality. Through a collaborative process, an initial sketch evolved into an architecturally striking, mechanically viable and fully modular shade system. The result?
