PRECAST SEATING

The precast seating for the new Queensland Children’s Hospital precinct in South Brisbane blends seamlessly with the landscaped environment.
Benzini Australia Pty Ltd was contracted by Dig-it Landscapes to manufacture the precast seats for the Queensland Children’s Hospital landscaping project.
The scope of work included manufacture of the moulding and casting of 28 seats – over 100 lineal metres and 34 tonnes of seating. Seats were from 2.5metre long up to 6metre long.
As the ground level where these seats were to go is sloping the seats were designed as built in situ bases and then the precast ‘benches’ were lifted and installed over the top.
Benzini used stainless steel moulds so there was no joint in the moulding or join marks left on the finished seats. This made it easier to achieve the required Class 1 finish. Inside the moulds we made rubber void formers to produce the specially designed Skate deterrents.
Cast in 40Mpa CCS ‘Grasshopper’ coloured concrete, the seats blend in beautifully with the landscaped environment.
The specified sealer PentraSil244++ was used as a densifier and concrete hardener to give long lasting protection to the concrete surface.
After installation, Dig-it Landscapes glued in stainless steel disks to cover the lifting anchor voids for a completed and attractive finish.
