RESTORED BRIDGE MAKES TRAVEL SAFER
03 Feb 2016
A well trafficked bridge in the Nillumbik Shire was fully refurbished with the help of OmniDeckCPS and a coating of OmniGripHF, restoring the bridge to prime condition.
A busy one lane bridge in Nillumbik Shire in Victoria’s outer northern suburbs was greatly deteriorated due to the ravages of weather and constant vehicular traffic. Omnicrete was called in to help restore the bridge to its former glory and make it once again safe for public use.
In order to restore the bridge to its rightful state, a new expansion joint was installed and the concrete deck prepared by captive shot blasting, to remove the redundant surface. The spalled concrete on the bridge was repaired by Omnicrete’s accredited installer Safe T Surfaces before an overcoat of OmniDeckCPS was installed to provide protection from the elements. Finally, a course of OmniGripHF treatment was installed, ensuring the highest safety standards for the refurbished bridge. The colour chosen for this final treatment was Grey Calcined Bauxite, bringing the bridge back to a neutral colour range and completing the transformation.
OmniGrip HF (High friction) is a skid resistant surfacing system used for highways, bridges and vehicle trafficked pavements. In using OmniGrip HF on the bridge refurbishment it:
- Improved surface friction
- Improved macro and micro texture
- Reduced breaking distances
- Improved vehicle deceleration
- Created a safer road environment
The Nillumbik Shire bridge refurbishment is just one example of how OmniCrete Surfacing Systems make old roads safer for public use.
