It’s about time! Laykold’s new cushioned-court technology is driving a force reduction revolution.
Manufactured by APT Asia Pacific in Melbourne, Laykold Masters Float is a cutting-edge, environmentally-friendly, composite court system. It utilises a custom prefabricated shock pad made from recycled tennis balls (4000 balls used in a single court), a topcoat consisting of 50 percent renewable material by weight, and an adhesive and pore filler made with 40 percent renewable content.
The all-weather court surface is perfect for multisport use, including tennis, netball and basketball. It offers a variety of benefits to all ages and abilities such as consistent ball bounce, reliable footing and an impressive 21 percent force reduction, which enhances player performance by reducing joint impact and body fatigue.
Laykold Masters Float is one of three Laykold cushion-court systems that is driving a force reduction revolution by investing significantly to improve outdated cushion-court technology. Old cushion-court technology loses its cushioning roughly three years after installation, but Laykold’s force reduction range retains 95 to 98 percent flexibility after 10 years.
Tom Burgess from TEB Contractors in South Australia is one of APT Asia Pacific’s leading Laykold installers. Many of Tom’s projects using Laykold Masters Float are for clubs, schools and commercial facilities wanting a long-lasting and durable solution to revitalise courts suffering from cracked or deteriorated substrates.
One such recent project was the South Australia Districts Netball Association (SADNA), which is one of the largest netball complexes in South Australia with 20 dedicated courts. The project involved recoating the existing tired asphalt courts using the multilayer Laykold Masters Float system, breathing new life into the courts and into players' performances.
Laykold force reduction courts are cost effective, encourage active participation for longer through injury prevention, and can reduce chronic playing pain. They have a longer lifecycle than synthetic grass, require little maintenance and deliver longer playing seasons than clay.
Laykold is the official surface of the US Open and offers the world’s widest range of court surfacing systems, which is why it’s trusted and chosen by 8 of the top 13 hard court pro tour events in USA and Canada.
