THE HARDY CHOICE FOR LANDSCAPING
09 Dec 2015
The Lomandra Verday species is hardy, attractive and evergreen; the perfect plant choice for landscaping that needs to stand up to tough Australian conditions.
The reliable and attractive Lomandra Verday was destined for use in the landscape sphere. This great looking plant is capable of surviving tough climatic conditions, from harsh roadside plantings to large commercial sites, even coastal conditions.
The thin foliage of Verday always maintains a neat, attractive look due to its dense semi-upright/weeping growth pattern. Through the heat of summer and the cool of winter, Verday retains its dark green foliage, while from spring to summer it produces resplendent yellow and maroon flowers.
Using currently popular landscaping Lomandra as a standard, Ramm Botanicals has trialled Verday extensively. They found it performed best on a sloped area within a retaining wall, which received harsh sun and heat all day. As the seasons changed, Verday withstood substantial water runoff and below average temperatures, proving it could manage all weather conditions, flourishing as its competitors yellowed and perished.
The strength of Verday lies in its strong root structure, which not only ensures a good healthy plant, but also helps to stabilise soil. These characteristics are essential in landscaping varieties.
Australian Horticulturalist Angus Stewart was a member of the selection team that nominated Verday to become a part of the Ramm Landscape range.
Angus states, “In my experience ‘Verday’ is equal or superior to any other narrow leafed Lomandra on the market across a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. For streetscapes and other extensive landscape situations, it is virtually maintenance free for several years after planting and can be easily rejuvenated by dividing the plant after a number of years. This exceptional Lomandra is definitely great value for money.”
Verday was bred by Provincial Plants & Landscapes and is produced and distributed by Ramm Botanicals. The plants are produced from tissue culture at the Ramm Botanicals laboratory, located on the Central Coast of Australia. This process ensures high health, quick supply of large quantities, and consistent good growth. Plants are supplied in either plugs or forestry tubes.
Ramm Landscape offer trial stock of Verday, as well as other lines such as Kangaroo Paw, Hardenbergia and Scaevola, from their Landscaping range. To view the full Ramm Landscape range visit www.rammlandscape.com.au
