WEST VILLAGE GROWS A GREEN FUTURE
11 Oct 2018
With over 13,000 square metres of green spaces requiring upkeep, Hedge Property Services was commissioned to sustain the green community of Sekisui House's West Village residential precinct and keep this vibrant ecosystem thriving.
Located a stone’s throw away from Southbank’s Cultural and Performing Arts Centre, West Village is a state-of-the-art residential precinct, bound to set a new standard for Brisbane. With up to 13,000 square metres of green space, apartments and retail, the development is already considered a future iconic destination for residential owners and visitors alike.
Developed by multi-award-winning and world-renowned property builder and developer Sekisui House, this unique community-focused precinct will offer its residents and visitors a sub-tropical environment, mixed with an array of urban excitement. Sekisui House’s ambition to create greener communities that improve over time, coupled with the picturesque backdrop of the old Peters Ice Cream Factory, perfectly matches Hedge Property Service’s own vision of community development.
Commencing early July 2018 with the maintenance of existing pots in the laneway adjacent to Sekisui head offices, the team at Hedge quickly realised the potential this area possessed. The initial focus was set on detailing an assortment of tropical plants and creating an atmosphere that would brighten the busy laneway with the use of various vibrant colours and textures. Pest and disease management, as well as fertilising plans were implemented to keep this entire ecosystem vibrant and healthy. Impeccable pruning was required to ensure the safety of the general public as well as to shape the dazzling composition of philodendron, bromeliads, fig species and various palms positioned in the laneway.
Following the completion of softscape work by sister company Penfold Projects, in conjunction with Hutchinson Builders, Hedge then inherited the challenging post-construction maintenance of the New York-inspired Lexington and Park towers, which proved to be the perfect opportunity to showcase the company’s full capabilities. With a complex variety of trees, plants and ground cover – all varying in species – as well as high end maintenance requirements, Hedge tailored a specific maintenance plan to ensure all plants are thriving within the same environment.
This plan is designed to ensure premium maintenance is achieved in all areas of the precinct, including the rooftop, multiple entrances and unit gardens. Selective pruning, hedging, insecticide, fungicide and detailing were all included in the scope to ensure the best results. Attention to detail for every area is crucial to the overall health and look of the rich ecosystem that West Village is adopting.
The next stage of construction, ‘The Common’, is currently being developed to become a vibrant and lush sanctuary stretching over 1532 square metres. Penfold Projects has been tasked with the hardscape and softscape works, which will eventually see Hedge coordinate post-construction maintenance to ensure all plants and ex-grounds trees thrive in their new home.
Once fully completed, West Village will boast an impressive 433 freestanding planter pots, which are expected to be installed along with 57 ex-ground trees and up to 4500 plants.
Hedge is looking forward to working with Sekisui House and delivering the highest standard of maintenance. The team will continue to excel in all aspects to ensure this prestigious project is successfully brought to life.
