A reliable and discreet drainage system was required for the construction of the popular thoroughfare, Wynyard Walk. The KlassikDrain K100 system from ACO delivers these requirements including a range of additional benefits.
The newly constructed Wynyard Walk runs from Wynyard Train Station to the western CBD and Barangaroo waterfront, taking up to 23,000 office workers along the six-minute walk to Barangaroo every day. Built to hold up to 20,000 people per hour, the tunnel is a well-travelled thoroughfare that requires reliable and foot-friendly drainage.
ACO provided the KlassikDrain K100 system with a custom double Brickslot top. This drainage system is designed to provide both suitable daily drainage and will capture water from the sprinkler in the case of a fire, all the while maintaining discretion.
The ACO engineering designers were provided with hydraulic performance data that encompassed slot intake capacities and optimal distance for drainage pit positioning. They decided to use the KlassikDrain K100 system which provides a wide range of benefits that make it ideal for Wynyard Walk.
Safety concerns are paramount and the KlassikDrainK100 delivers with the double 6mm Brickslot top providing sufficient safety in the face of excessive pedestrian traffic. The 0.5 percent slope allows for flat pavement surfaces but still provides the appropriate amount of runoff to ensure flooding goes not occur. The Brickslot system can also be positioned close to tunnel walls which ensures a discreet drain that does not hinder walkway flow. 
The KlassikDrain K100 features 100mm internal width and a variety of grates to choose from, including mesh and Heelsafe™ Anti-Slip grates,and can hold up to Load Class D (AS 3996). The K100 includes a 1-40 sloped system, V-shaped profile, 5 neutrals, 4 half metres, knock outs for every 5th channel, and comes with an installation device and in-line pit.
The K100 also comes in the KlassikDrain KS100 system which includes all the same features as the K100 but the integral galvanised steel edge rail is replaced with the grade 304 stainless steel edge rail.
