A NEW REASON TO HANG OUT IN DUBAI
04 May 2016
A new mixed-used development in Dubai promises thrill-seekers the ultimate rush in the form of a chance to dangle from the lofty peak of its 285m tower. Guaranteed best view in town โ if you dare!
As only Dubai can! The new Aykon City development will set itself apart from others in the city by offering visitors the chance to hang off the top of its summit, 285m in the air. A six-tower development located on the prestigious Sheikh Zayed Road, Aykon City will provide all the benefits of a city along with its unique proposal to ‘fly’ over the city skyline.
Known as Aykon Dare, this unique experience is described as a “first-of-its-kind tourist attraction”. Located on the 80th floor of the hotel, those who seek the thrill of hanging over the city will be put into a safety harness attached to a safety rail, and then led out onto a landing platform.
Strapped in on the 78th floor, thrill seekers, once safety attached, will be winched up to the 80th floor where they will be able to circle the building and lean out over the edge to take advantage of the panoramic view of Dubai below. The experience is expected to last for 45 minutes to an hour – if they can last that long.
Though arguably the most thrilling aspect, Aykon Dare is just one of the many delights this new development will offer.
Part of the 3.7 million sqm Dubai Canal Project, Aykon city will serve to link the city’s Business Bay central business district to the stretch of coast where The World and The Heart of Europe - an archipelago of 300 islands built from dredged sand – form the gateway to the Burj area.
Developed by DAMAC Properties it will overlook the Dubai Canal, at a projected cost of $2 billion (USD) to build.
Set over 372,000 sqm, the tower development will contain an 80-storey hotel and residencies building, a 63-storey serviced residences hotel building, a 60-storey apartment tower, a 65-storey office tower and two luxury residential towers and views over the Dubai Canal and Safa Park. Retail, dining and entertainment areas will sit in the podium that links the buildings. In addition, a separate plaza will provide swimming pools and a beach club, as well as spa, yoga and tai-chi areas, cafés, restaurants and a private members club.
With the hope it will become a new architectural icon of Dubai's skyline, DAMAC Properties is expected to commence work on Aykon City this year, with completion scheduled for 2021.
