STRIKING GOLD IN BALLARAT
06 Aug 2024
Paying homage to the heritage of a location can be a fun jumping off for a landscape architect which is exactly what FLOW Design Studio has done for the central park at the Winterfield residential development in Ballarat.
Taking the rich goldfields heritage, which incidentally happens to be the name of the project’s development managers, Goldfields Group, as the theme, FLOW created a park that playfully nods to the rich period of history.
The large park, which covers over a hectare, features a large playground which features an impressive ‘poppet head’ play tower and multi-faceted play element - as the main theme of the play space. The poppet head, which is the framework above a mining shaft that supports the winding mechanism which brings up the goods mined from below, seemed the perfect platform from which to create a tower play elements which was bespoke designed for purpose.
Making an impressive statement from almost any location across the park, the poppet head play element is a shining example of how unique ideas can really play a huge role in capturing the spirit of a location.
The Park, which has been designed to become a fantastic space for all members of the community and to attract visitors from far and wide features a huge array of play equipment for children young and old including traditional elements such as slides, swings and climbing while older kids and adults will enjoy the exercise equipment and loads of space to job, walk the dog, kick about or simply sit and relax.
The park features a huge array of Fleming’s quality trees – both native and ornamental offering seasonal variation and interest, while the park itself was constructed by FLOW’s sister Company, Fleming’s Landscapes.
Creating unique, inspirational places for people to enjoy the great outdoors is fast becoming Flow Design Studio and Fleming’s Landscapes forte and showcases what a marriage of innovation and vision can be.
