Construction Begins on West Perth Mixed-use Precinct

Construction has begun on Sydney Charles Quarter, a new mixed-use precinct in West Perth. The $107-million development combines residential, retail and a new luxury hotel with new public and greenspaces.

Construction Begins on West Perth Mixed-use Precinct

Located in the Pickle District, on the fringe of Perth's CBD, Sydney Charles Quarter (SCQ) was conceived as a "connected village destination". The APPL Group project brings together a luxury hotel, rooftop restaurant and bar, co-living and build-to-rent (BTR) apartments, a supermarket, retail tenancies, and a network of public open spaces on a single urban site.

SCQ's public realm programme is anchored by The Commons, designed as the green heart of the precinct and divided into two distinct spaces: Commons West, situated within the retail area, and Commons East, home to The Courts.

A stories trail is planned to bring the area's local history to life through curated interpretation across the precinct. SCQ has committed to a percent-for-public-art programme, with works by Western Australian artists to be displayed throughout the precinct and within the hotel. An additional element of the regeneration includes the adaptive reuse of the former Pickle Shed, which is being retained and repurposed as a food and beverage destination.

The precinct layout is pedestrian-first, designed to encourage movement between shops, dining venues and shared public spaces. SCQ falls within Perth's Free Transit Zone and connects to the city's established cycle-path network, while sitting close to the city's north, south, east and west road routes.

LUXURY HOTEL

The Radisson Perth Hotel is scheduled to officially open at the start of 2027, marking the Radisson brand's debut in Australasia. Occupying the rooftop above the hotel is Syd's, an Iberian-inspired restaurant and bar and the rooftop's sole occupant.

RESIDENTIAL AND RETAIL

UKO Co-Living is scheduled to open at the end of January 2027, marking UKO's first Western Australian opening. UKO BTR follows at the end of February 2027, bringing purpose-built rental apartments to the precinct alongside the co-living offer. An ALDI supermarket is also expected to open at the end of February 2027.

Staged openings are expected from the start of 2027. The hotel and its associated rooftop restaurant and bar are among the first components expected to open, with a possible soft opening for the hotel as early as mid-December 2026. UKO Co-Living, UKO BTR and an ALDI supermarket are expected to follow through January and February 2027. Additional confirmed tenants are anticipated to open in March 2027, with further openings to continue across the year as the precinct builds toward full activation.
