Australia has entered another period where water resilience deserves immediate attention. An El Niño has been declared in the Pacific, and the CSIRO advises that it points to possible drier conditions and a heightened risk of drought. It also makes an important point: drought develops over time through the combined effect of persistent rainfall deficiency, heat, evaporation, soil moisture and available water supplies.

That is precisely why resilient landscapes cannot rely on reactive watering alone. By the time a streetscape, rain garden or newly planted tree is visibly stressed, the cost of recovery is already climbing—more labour, more water, more plant replacements and a compromised public realm. The better commercial decision is to build a water buffer into the landscape from day one.

WaterUps Sub-Irrigation Channels (SIC) are engineered for that job. It is now also being for narrow planting strips, both inground and in planters. Given its compact design it can be positioned around failing trees without damaging roots.
