FLEMING’S DESIGN HOUSE ENSURES GOOD DESIGN WILL FLOW!
05 Aug 2021
The Fleming’s Group of Companies continues to grow and develop and is today one of Australia’s most dynamic horticultural businesses. Introducing their latest expansion, Flow Design Studio.
Fleming’s businesses comprise of four production nurseries across Melbourne and Queensland, a Tissue Culture Laboratory in Queensland and Fleming’s Landscapes – producing amazing landscape projects across Victoria. The business led by Wes and Paige Fleming, is excited to announce its latest business division, Flow Design Studio.
In July 2019, Fleming’s established Flow Design Studio, a formal landscape architecture and garden design division, located in the creative hub of Richmond, Melbourne.
Although Fleming’s had been designing aspects of landscapes for nearly 15 years, Wes and Paige felt it was the right time to formalise the business as its own individual identity and focus on ways to ensure plant-scaping was realised more fully for their clients.
Flow Design Studio is focused on providing clients with a full suite of landscape design services across both residential and commercial business sectors and follows Fleming’s overarching credo to ensure horticulture is the focus of attention.
Employing the cream of the crop of professional and AILA registered landscape architects including those with specific technical experience of over 20 years, Flow has established a unique design office that melds, design with construction and horticultural expertise ensuring difficult environments are approached with a high degree of understanding.
New residential parks are fast becoming Flow Design Studio’s trademark with more than 15 parks now either designed and built (or in the design process). With more on the horizon, Wes and Paige are excited to see a new era in urban landscaping starting to emerge across Melbourne.
“Our unique difference is that we are a design and construct model, so we work closely with the construction arm and make realistic design choices and find ways to ensure our point of difference is with our knowledge of plants, which of course we source from the nurseries,” says Wes Fleming.
This hand in glove approach is absolutely unique in the commercial development of urban landscapes and is a new approach for many developers, but the model is starting to resonate, and developers are seeing the benefits of the model as it ensures complete focus by one outfit from end to end.
An example of this difference was seen in the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA VIC) award winning development Waterford Rise which took out the 2020 Master-planned Community Award where the judges highlighted Fleming’s landscape outcomes as exceptional.
“Accolades are one thing, but the proof is really in the pudding. When I see people in our parks, kids playing on the swings we have designed, picnicking under trees we have grown and planted; that’s the true testimony to our success," says Wes.
“Flow is still in its infancy, but we have gone from strength to strength very quickly and we couldn’t be happier with how the team is coming together. We are breaking new ground and we are not afraid to be a little different to the normal design studios. We want to be different and we want to ensure our legacy is what we produce. It’s what we leave behind for the next 20 to 30 years that’s really important.”
