GREEN PARKING IN ITALY
31 May 2018
An open-space park proposal for Asti in Italy sees a public carpark ringed by a greenroof with varied public amenities that ably demonstrates how green infrastructure can create a thriving and functional community space.
Designed by architects Angelo Salamone and Ilaria Filippi of AS-DOES. their innovative proposal puts forth a carpark plan as part of a competition organised by Asti Servizi Pubblici S.p.A. The contest called for solutions to tackle the redevelopment of Piazza Campo del Palio in Asti. Every project was required to address how to revitalise the area and make it safer and more functional for citizens.
The plan proposes a multi-storey elliptical carpark that functions as a covered overpass with a large green roof. The project provides vast open spaces, areas for parking, and space for commercial and cultural activities.
The designers incorporated greenspace to make the location more appealing and to provide a place for recreation. The greenroof also offers visitors incredible city views.
The roof is an ideal location for friends to gather and play ball or skate. The ground floor of the carpark has a central square that can be used for a variety of purposes, including as a venue for performances, local events or markets.
