hidden Design Festival

Don’t miss this one-off public viewing of some of Sydney’s most amazing designer gardens, courtyards, rooftops and outdoor spaces - for one weekend only during March.

hidden Design Festival

Sydney is home to many examples of excellent outdoor design and the hidden Design Festival is your chance to see these designer gardens, courtyards, rooftops and outdoor spaces in a one-off public viewing during the March 14-15 weekend.

Outdoor design is a discipline unlike any other. Similar to object design, it works with function, form and aesthetics, and while interior design 'sculpts the air' to make people-friendly places in empty, open spaces, outdoor design encompasses an extra dimension to also embrace time - working with the unpredictability of nature and the changing patina of using unprotected materials in the natural landscape.

In its initial year, hidden Design Festival was a sell-out event. Nearly a thousand people bought tickets and visited some of Sydney’s best outdoor spaces designed by some of the profession’s leading landscape designers. Thousands of dollars were raised for the nominated charity.

This year, hidden Design Festival showcases a new and diverse range of outdoor spaces created by some of Sydney’s best known and award-winning landscape designers as well as some new emerging designers. Sites are clustered through Sydney’s North Shore, Northern Beaches, Inner City and City Fringe, Northern Districts and Eastern Suburbs.

Designers include:

  • Adam Robinson Design
  • Christopher Owen
  • Bates Landscape
  • Secret Gardens
  • terraneo
  • Your Edible Garden
  • Brendan Moar
  • Impressions Landscape – Design
  • Space Landscape Designs
  • Tropic of Sydney
  • Garden Life
  • Imperial Gardens Landscape
  • Stark Design interiors + exteriors
  • Banksia Design Group
  • Tig Crowley Designs
  • The Greenwall Company
  • Living Colour Landscapes

Most of the sites have never before been opened to the public and are unlikely to be again. hidden’s designers show that they are expert practitioners of four-dimensional design, using a range of styles and ideas to shape spaces, manage levels, create vistas and privacy, use colour and texture, construction and garden detailing and plant choices - providing many ideas and tips for the amateur gardener.

This year our nominated charity is the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Funds raised will be directed through the Foundation to the renovation of a courtyard garden within the Children’s Hospital at Randwick.

Tickets to hidden are now on sale – a single $47.50 ticket gives entry to all sites.
