JOSH’S OPEN HOUSE

Josh’s House has proven to be one of the most exciting and ambitious house projects ever undertaken in Fremantle, or even Australia.
From November 2012, Josh’s House has proven to be one of the most exciting and ambitious house projects ever undertaken in Fremantle, or even Australia.
With the job now complete, the project has received its 10 star rating by the federal government energy efficiency rating scheme, well above the standard 6 star rating.
The Josh’s House series sought to showcase through demonstration and inspiration, how affordable and realistic sustainable housing can be. The use of conventional building materials and construction methods throughout the project has revealed how easily it replicated by industry and the wider community. Josh Byrne is proud of his achievement, believing “it gives me great comfort to know that my children will grow up in a home that is healthy to live in and efficient to run. For them solar passive design, rainwater harvesting, solar power and organic food will be the norm.”
Josh Byrne also claims that his model of home will save Australians $3,500 a year. Byrne will also have his power bills accumulate on a website for anyone to watch as proof.
With the latest episode of Josh's House being released next week, we finally get a chance to fully explore the completed house.
Episode eight of the ground breaking Josh's House project is the highly anticipated landscape special. Watch the stunning outside living spaces come to life as they transform from the original design to a urban sanctuary.
With the construction of the houses nearing completion Josh springs into action with his design team and landscape construction crew, all assisted by the contributions from dedicated specialists in the fields of timber work, irrigation, mature trees, soils and conditioners, lawn and plantings.
With 800 square metres to scape with a relatively tight budget Josh must ensure the design is beautiful, useable, kid friendly and productive whilst not forgetting project deadlines.
This is Josh Byrne in his energetic element, creating a very special garden for what is a unique yet accessible housing project. Join Josh as he shows you the landscape of his new ten star energy efficient family home.
However, a much better way to really get a feel for it is to tour this amazing feat of sustainable construction first-hand when Josh’s House will be open to the public on Sustainable House Day on the 8th September. We’ll have more details on this in the upcoming weeks!
