The Village Tavern in the heart of golden Grove is a neighbourhood icon, frequented by local residents and visitors alike. With an enviable courtyard beer garden, the tavern boasts great facilities, with patrons frequently choosing the alfresco experience.

The stylish outdoor space features a large screen TV, outdoor bar and dining area, providing the ultimate facility for meeting family and friends, and relaxing. But while beer gardens are a must-have for today’s hospitality venues, they can be underused during hotter days or wet weather. To provide respite from the harsh summer sun and winter showers, the owners of The Village Tavern elected to install a large waterproof Shaderunner® Retractable Sail System from Shadeform. 

At 6.5m wide x 16.0m extension, the Shaderunner® provides over 100sqm of shade and weatherproof protection for patrons, enabling year-round use of the beer garden. Supported by heavy-duty stainless-steel cables, the Shaderunner® Retractable Sail System can span larger areas with minimal support structure, providing an aesthetically appealing and practical solution for commercial spaces. 

The Shaderunner® is manufactured from a range of rigorously tested fabrics, from 95 percent Polyester Mesh to Waterproof PVC. Each fabric is mould resistant and offers protection from glare and the sun’s harmful rays, with a wide range of colours available. 

The Shaderunner® at the Village Tavern is manufactured in a durable, translucent, waterproof PVC, providing weatherproof and UV protection on demand for beer garden patrons, ensuring maximum and continued use of this valuable commercial space. The retractable shade gives a lighter feel to the space than a traditional hard roof, with the fabric permitting natural light transmission while reducing glare.

The Shaderunner® at the Village Tavern is manually operated with a self-tailing stainless steel winch, a feature that is frequently used for larger systems, enabling the Shaderunner® to be easily extended and retracted as required. Patrons are able to enjoy the alfresco experience year-round, with rain protection during winter or welcome shade in the warmer months.

The Shaderunner® Retractable Sail is constructed using only the most durable marine grade yacht fittings and Ronstan ball bearing pulleys, ensuring years of trouble-free shading with minimal maintenance. Low friction ball bearing pulleys ensure the Shaderunner® is easy to use, with most systems being operated manually using an endless cord system with horn cleat tie off.

For the ultimate convenience the Shaderunner® can also include motorised operation (within size limitations), using an industry leading Somfy motor with touch button control. A range of optional sun, wind and rain sensors are also available to deploy or retract the Shaderunner® as required during weather events.
