MASTERPLAN FOR MOROCCO
30 Aug 2018
Designed to blur the boundaries between the city and the sea, a masterplan for a public support platform at Rabat’s Beach in Morocco has been proposed. The platform will feature innovative designs and structures that intend to create and shape community social interactions.

Following a sensitive logic of integration, AMBS Architects and local partner Archgues Guessous Associates have partnered up to propose a platform that creates a smooth, seamless transition from the city to the seafront.
The masterplan will create a channel for the community of Rabat’s Beach to follow to the beach’s promenade and will promote new and old social processes that go beyond the physical.
Concrete block modules in ochre and grey shades form the base of the platform, creating spaces for specific uses such as circulation, planters, stairs and casual seating.
“There are also endless ad-hoc opportunities for the public to inhabit the spaces – a quality that is quintessential of the Moroccan medina where any space can become the impromptu base of a social activity,” explained the architects.
The proposal hopes to see a place for public engagement, where people can connect, learn and observe, all while basking in the natural seaside landscape.
