Sculptures of living green

Ethereal sculptures of living green plants rise mystically upward on Ronstan Cable Trellis Systems to lavish spaces with natural beauty.

Sculptures of living green

Cable trellis systems provide essential structure for vertical climbing plants and encourage growth along cables and wires to form attractive green facades and walls.

But vertical climbing plants long to stretch way beyond planar limits. In their search for light and freedom they chase upwards to form intriguing three dimensional columns of organic green magnificence.

Cables can be arranged in any density and spatial configuration to facilitate the required level of plant mass and sculptural form, transforming vertical spaces with organic creativity.

Brisbane’s new QEII Supreme Court Building houses such a structure. Within the building’s transparent atria, located from Levels 3 to 5 and 12 to 17, stand 40 floor-to-ceiling cylindrical cable trellises. Spanning 20m in height, these custom tri-cable trellises provide structure for the plants to weave their way upwards. And the results are spectacular providing refreshing and unique natural features that can be seen from all levels of the office adjacent.

Designed by Architectus + Guymer Bailey, the sculptures utilise horizontal stainless steel rings spaced equally up 8mm AGS1 G316 stainless steel cables to provide the sculptural form.

This and many other projects are detailed along with Ronstan’s most popular Cable Trellis Systems in the new Ronstan Cable Trellis Catalogue, which will sit well on any coffee table and is packed full of inspirational green sculptures, walls and arbour ideas as well as technical advice.
