Don’t miss the ‘Latest Management Techniques for Pests and Diseases in Your Nursery’ workshop, held August 9 at Richmond TAFE, NSW.
This workshop provides up-to-date information on the management of pests and diseases in production nurseries.
While it is a collaborative effort between the Nursery & Garden Industry Australia (NGIA) and DAFF, the workshop is part of the Nursery Production Plant Health and Biosecurity Project (NPPHBP), which is co-funded by Horticulture Australia Ltd and DAFF using national Nursery Industry levy and matched funds from the Australian Government.
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
• Recognise key pests and diseases affecting nursery crops
• Understand what resources are available to assist in pest and disease identification, including diagnostic services covered by the NPPHBP
• Correctly collect and prepare specimens for pest and disease diagnostics
• Understand how to survey and monitor pests on farm
• Carry out pest and disease management strategies, including improving hygiene practices and strategic pesticide application
• Be better informed on high priority plant health issues for the nursery industry (eg myrtle rust and sudden oak death) and potential exotic pest and disease threats
• All participants will receive an information pack containing factsheets, guidelines/protocols and technical notes relating to pest and disease management in production nurseries.
About the Presenters
Dr Andrew Manners is a Senior Entomologist in DAFFQ who has extensive knowledge in plant biosecurity policy including managing western flower thrips in an IPM framework and work on non-chemical alternatives for interstate plant movement.
Tony Cooke is an experienced field pathologist in DAFFQ. His work includes publishing key references for diagnosis of plant diseases in a wide range of crops and extensive experience in pathology, diagnostics and specimen photography.
