Waterproofing Temples

Using Drizoro Maxseal Flex, Scientific Waterproofing Products was able to waterproof the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Helensburgh, NSW.

Waterproofing Temples

Since construction 40 years ago, the Sri Venkateswara Temple had developed roof leaks causing significant water damage within the structure. The choice of replacement waterproofing for the concrete roof was further complicated by the concrete having an excessive amount of hairline cracking, plus a moisture content significantly higher than that allowed for Petro-chemical type waterproofing membranes such as bitumen, torch -on, polyurethanes, etc, typically requiring no moisture within the substrate prior to application.

Waterproofing Temples

The previous torch-on waterproofing was removed, revealing a sand cement screed, installed to facilitate fall for water run-off, this screed was also removed to lighten the load on the structure.

Waterproofing Temples

Drizoro Maxseal flex – a cementitious waterproofing membrane was chosen for the following reasons: -

  • Can only be applied to a wet surface
  • Fills cracks and voids up to 3mm in width
  • Has 59 percent elongation to accommodate thermal movement over approximately 4000m2
  • Fully UV stable
  • Forms part of the concrete substrate, eliminating possible vegetative growth between the concrete substrate and the membrane.
  • Fully submersible, eliminating screeds for creating run-off
  • Simple brush or spray-on application to the wet surface
  • Material cost less than $20 per m2 - two coats completed
  • minimum 10-year product warranty
