As part of major upgrade works at Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park to enhance its 160 km Grampians Peak Trail, ACE upgraded 13 different sites including the Mount Zero (Mura Mura) Trailhead located in the north of the park.
The works provided a range of new and upgraded access points, tracks and trailheads, developed to provide visitors with increased flexibility, information and facilities to access different points of the vast trail.
The scope of works at the Mura Mura Trailhead included:
- Signage and interpretive treatments
- Installation of architectural ‘Emu Feather’ screen
- Access track upgrades
- Carpark upgrades
- Rock signage, picnic areas and feature artworks
- Upgrade of existing landscaping
- Installation of BBQ/Fire Pit
The Mura Mura site is part of a highly significant Aboriginal cultural landscape whose people have an enduring connection to this place. The cultural heritage required sensitive management and Ace worked with Parks Victoria and Traditional Owner partners to ensure that all cultural heritage was duly recorded in accordance with Cultural Heritage Management Plans and treated with respect.
