The extraordinary Hyper Filter Skyscraper is designed to inhale carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, and exhale oxygen, storing the harmful substances for use in the chemical industry.
Designed as a solution to the current air pollution levels in dense urban centres, the Hyper Filter Skycraper uses long pipe filters to soak up CO2 and other harmful gases while releasing clear concentrated oxygen into the atmosphere.
The envelope was designed to provide proportional clean air emissions to the over-building space. The external skin populated with pipe-filters maintains temperature balance throughout the building and inhaled harmful substances are divided into reservoirs for future use in the construction and chemical industry.
By being an active participant in the air purification system, the building not only acts in a similar way to a tree, it’s actually smarter by storing reusable resources that would otherwise be wasted.
Designed by Alexey Umarov, this project earned an honourable mention in the 2014 eVolo Skyscraper Competition.
