Nine projects were acknowledged over eight categories, as the industry gathers to celebrate landscapes of all sizes across the state.
Jury Chair, Mary Papaioannou commented on the quality of award entries, the breadth of project types and the scales represented. “It is clear that the Tasmanian landscape architects are questioning the status quo,” Ms Papaioannou said. “The Jury was impressed by the sophistication of successful projects – from the broad scale and strategic thinking behind them to well-documented processes and skilful, often beautiful project resolution.” 
The most successful projects consistently displayed a deep and specific understanding of the local physical environment and showed great sensitivity towards the community, the nuances of governing bodies and of clients alike.”
Outgoing AILA Tasmania President Miriam Shevland said that the awards are a timely reminder of how landscape architects have been at the core of making cities and the state more liveable, greener and healthier.
“Tasmania continues to be a centre for activity for landscape architects. The diversity of the different work in the state is captured in the entries. There is some world class work emerging now, as landscape architects respond to changes across the state,” Ms Shevland said. “Landscape architects represent a profession increasingly dominating policy debate. Landscape architects are beginning to lead policy making to deliver exemplary outcomes for our cities, towns, regions and their inhabitants.” 
The biennial awards program acknowledges how landscape architects conceive, reimagine and transform cities and towns; from streetscapes to parks and playgrounds, transport solutions to tourism strategies, new suburbs to new ways of living.
The winners were announced at an event in Hobart on Friday 5 July, 2019.
