Danjiang Bridge is a colossal feat of engineering and is imperative to the infrastructural upgrade program of Taiwan. 

Visual impact is minimised through the use of a single concrete mast, which will support the primary 450-metre span that includes dedicated road, cycle and pedestrian lanes. The bridge will also be built to accommodate for the future expansion of Taiwan’s Danhai Light Rail network.

The bridge aims to significantly reduce traffic by 30 percent of the existing upriver bridge, by linking the two highways that lie on each side of the river. This reduction will improve northern coastal traffic and increase accessibility throughout the region, especially leading to the Taoyuan International Airport.

The bridge was designed in collaboration with Sinoteh Engineering Consultants, and Leonhardt, Andrä & Partner. The 200-metre-high mast is designed to be very slender and positioned to minimise navigation and disruption to the riverbed. It was also positioned to protect views of the sunset from nearby lookouts along the river.

The Danjian Bridge is scheduled to open in 68 months in 2024.
