The heritage-listed building, built in 1913, originally housed the racecourse’s mechanical totalisator system and played a central role in the excitement and tradition of race day operations for generations.
As part of the Tote Building Refurbishment, Penfold’s Projects was proud to deliver a complete transformation of the external spaces that welcome visitors to this historic destination. Beginning with extensive paving works, the project reimagined the surrounding hardscape to create a refined and cohesive arrival experience, carefully balancing the building’s rich heritage character with a fresh contemporary feel.

The revitalisation was further elevated through the introduction of thoughtfully designed planting and softscape elements, bringing new life, texture and vibrancy to the space. The combination of modern paving finishes, layered greenery and carefully integrated landscaping helps blur the lines between old and new, enhancing the Tote Building’s architectural identity while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for racegoers and visitors alike.

Completed ahead of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the project reflects a seamless fusion of heritage preservation and modern landscape construction. The renewed outdoor spaces now complement the iconic Tote Building’s legacy, ensuring it continues to play a significant role within Eagle Farm Racecourse for years to come.
