At Activity Playgrounds, the recently completed Lipscombe Park playspace in Croydon showcases the importance of thoughtful design, collaboration and local manufacturing in delivering long-term community spaces.
Working closely with Maroondah City Council throughout the design process, the goal was to create a play space that encouraged movement, exploration and connection while responding carefully to the existing site conditions and established trees throughout the reserve.

Early concept planning focused heavily on circulation, accessibility and maintaining the natural feel of the park environment. Detailed CAD drawings, renders and site plans allowed the design team and council stakeholders to visualise how the playground would integrate into the space before manufacturing commenced. These tools also helped refine play flow, pathway connections, sightlines and the positioning of key play elements throughout the reserve.

Using elements from Activity Playgrounds’ Fortitude range, the final design combined the durability of Australian steel with the warmth and visual appeal of natural timber. A variety of play opportunities were incorporated throughout the space, including climbing challenges, balancing elements, rope play, slides, spinning and sensory-focused features designed to cater to a broad range of ages and abilities.

The completed playspace was carefully positioned amongst the existing tree canopy, helping the playground feel connected to the wider reserve while also providing natural shade and a softer park aesthetic. Supporting elements such as pathways, seating, nature play features and gathering spaces also contributed to creating a welcoming destination for the local community.

Beyond the equipment itself, the project reflects the importance of collaboration between designers, manufacturers and councils in delivering long-term community assets that are both functional and visually engaging.
Proudly Australian owned and Australian made, Activity Playgrounds designed and manufactured the project locally across its Victorian facilities. By managing the design, steel fabrication and manufacturing process in-house, the team maintained greater control over quality, consistency and project delivery throughout the build.

From early planning and concept development through to installation, the Lipscombe Park project highlights the value of collaborative design in creating engaging outdoor spaces that will support active community use for years to come.
