Find out who won the Landscape of the Year Award at Landscaping Victoria's 2016 Industry Awards and 50th Anniversary Gala celebrations at Pullman Albert Park this past Saturday.

LV Industry Award Winners

Saturday 15 October saw Landscaping Victoria celebrate their 2016 Industry Awards and 50th Anniversary Gala in style at the Pullman Albert Park. One of their biggest events to date, the night brought together individuals from all corners of the industry to celebrate the achievements of Landscaping Victoria members.

The team at Formation Landscapes had every reason to celebrate on the night, walking away with an impressive 5 awards, culminating in their win of 'Landscape of the Year'. Chris Weiss and the team put forward two striking projects, which both wowed the judges across a number of categories. Their impressive Surrey Hills Project was awarded Landscape of the Year, and was was deemed a "useable, low maintenance entertainment space incorporating a kid friendly zone, and year-round functionality" by the judges.

This year's Rising Star award was presented to Landscape Plus, accepted by Director Chris Keay. Awarded to a business less than 5 years of age, judges felt that Landscape Plus impressed the most with their business structure, knowledge and ambition. Chris demonstrated an honest and highly competent profile of his growing business, "a truly impressive business with a clear vision into the future of landscaping." In his acceptance speech Chris Keay thanked his partner for her support over the past four and a half years and acknowledged the immense amount of hard work and sacrifice that goes into starting up a business, praising those companies who themselves had taken that leap.

Judge’s Comments: "Formation Landscapes' Harding Street project in Surrey Hills, winner of Design over 200 square meters, and winner of Construction over $300K is a project that showcases clever and well considered design that addresses a difficult sloping site, delivers successfully on the client brief and provides plenty of ‘wow’ factor. In addition, this complex project has been built to the exacting standards that reflect the ambition of Landscaping Victoria’s Awards of Excellence. Congratulations to the Chris Weiss and the entire team at Formation Landscapes for this deserved win."

Judge’s Comments: "There were some inspiring and passionate businesses nominated for this year's Rising Star Award, and because of this high standard, judges decided to award not only a winner but a Commendation to Bayon Gardens.   However, the business that impressed the most and in some ways amazed the judges with their business structure, knowledge and ambition was Landscape Plus.  Chris Keay presented an exciting, intriguing and proficient business that has been developed around his experience in the landscape industry.  From the daily procedures, project specific market research and intense strategic planning; Chris demonstrated an honest and highly competent profile of his growing business. A truly impressive business with a clear vision into the future of landscaping."
