GREEN FUNNEL

URBAN CANOPEE's Green Funnel is a lightweight and modular solution for urban cooling. Installed as a growing canopy over public and private spaces or on rooftops, it provides shade for any surface. The perfect solution to providing shade and cooling where trees cannot be planted, Green Funnel structures are freestanding, self-watering and relocatable, with no impact on underground services.

Each Green Funnel can support up to three different climbing plant species. Individual consulting services are offered on each project, to design a unique and personalised plant selection suited to a site’s climatic and aesthetic specifications. The plants utilised to create a living canopy over the structure assist with restoring biodiversity in cities and improving air quality, in addition to combating the urban heat island effect and improving life for a city's inhabitants by providing a connection with nature.

Each structure is made of a composite material and does not require maintenance. They are resistant to wind, extreme weather and corrosion. A large water tank is housed within each structure and is equipped with a solar panel, battery and water pump setup to power a Sensopee smart irrigation system.

Humidity and temperature probes combined with an innovative IoT device provide 24/7 remote monitoring of growing conditions for the plants used to green the canopy. Irrigation is automated to optimally manage and preserve water resources. 

Green Funnel's elegant and unique design requires only a small amount of floorspace to create a very large canopy overhead. With a ground diameter of only 1.1 metres, the canopy can extend from 7-9 metres in diameter at 4-5 metres altitude, while providing an overall shade area of up to 60 square metres. 

Green Funnel structures come in various sizes. Height and crown widths can be adjusted to fit specific site requirements. 

The composite structure is fixed on a galvanised steel base hosting the water tank and substrate pot. Project-specific engineering calculations are done to assess the safest anchorage solution to suit existing ground cover as well as site load distribution limits.

The shape, texture and colour of each Green Funnel base is adapted to a client’s desired specifications, and the final product is highly customisable, with various integrated addons available, from circular sitting benches, shadecloth and bollards, to lighting and misting systems.

A number of Green Funnel structures have been installed across France (Paris, Marseille, Reims, Toulouse), Saudi Arabia and Morocco. Many more projects are scheduled to be implemented across the globe in 2020/2021.
