GR Design and Construct worked in conjunction with Land Design Partnership to design a shelter and associated works for Frankston City Council – George Pentland Reserve.

The shelter design needed to complement the surrounding area, with other elements including access paths, ground levels and vegetation needing to be taken into consideration.

Frankston City Council was keen to see ‘soft’ materials such as timber help blend the structure into the landscape. This was achieved by using GR standard post configurations, which are made from HDG steel and clad in hardwood sleeves to offer the integrity of steel with a timber look.

For the retaining walls, rendered colour concrete was used, while seating included HWD battens fixed to the top. A network of access paths which comply with current Australian Standards ensures easy access to and from the structure, while a timber deck at the rear leads visitors to a tea tree.

The end result is a great example of councils working with designers and builders to deliver quality open space products that benefit both locals and further afield visitors.
